Did Your Banana Go Bad?

Do you ever wonder when is the best time to eat your banana to get all of the nutrients?  Is it when the banana is still a little green?  What about when it starts to get brown spots?  How do you know when the banana is at its peak?  It may surprise you but the more brown spots it has the more nutrients it has.  When it comes to bananas the ripening process really activates a lot of the nutrients that are not present when it has some green or pure yellow.

Recently I have wanted to Lose Weight and have been making smoothies for my lunch instead of having a heavier meal.  Bananas are a staple when I make my smoothies and it’s nice to know that just because they get brown doesn’t mean they are not good.  Bananas are wonderful because they are full of potassium.  The body needs potassium to help protect and strengthen the heart.  It helps to cut down blood pressure and it also helps to counter sodium in the body.  Potassium can also help to prevent muscle cramps.

The next time you see your bananas turning brown, don’t throw them in the trash, throw them in a smoothie!  You can even use them to make banana bread or add them into a pudding!
